These are the final games of the Pandanet Go European Team Championship. The best 4 Teams from Europe play their last games to decide, which team will be the Pandanet Team Champion 2023. The games are played live on Friday and Saturday, before the EGC will start. Also there will be probatly a broadcast of the games.

* Rules: The 9×9 and 19×19 Marathon Go tournaments are a self-paired tournament with full handicap. The thinking time has to be agreed upon by the players. Each two players may report up to three Marathon games results. Prizes are awarded to the players with best performance. Results must be noted on specific logs on the marathon notice boards.

There will be one game per day, starting in the morning. The participants of the European Championship join this tournament latest in the second week. All games of the European Championship besides semifinals and finals also count for the Open Championship.

The tournament is EGF-ranked and there are nice prizes to win, not only for the top players, but also for everybody with a good tournament performance.

We all love playing at least one board game: Go! But of course there are more, and not only the classical ones. There have been many new inventions since Go. (You might have heard of Settlers of Catan, e.g.?)

Since these board games are typical for Germany, we are planing a large board game event at the EGC. You’ll be able to try out many exciting games there and play games with hundreds of people from all over the world!

You want to play Go and Volleyball at the beach? Welcome! You will play as a team of 4 players. Two players will play Rengo on the board and the other two players will have a volleyball match against another team. With switching teams after 7 points. Rules and the day can change due to the number of participations and the weather conditions.

– One Team consists of 6 players

– Two players start a Rengo game against another team

– The other 4 players play a volleyball match until the first volleyball team has 7 points

– Winning a volleyball round grants 5 points (or captured stones)

– 2 Volleyball players will switch with Rengo players after each round

– The team with more points in the end of the go game wins

– Pairings are free to choose

– Every win gives 2 team points and every draw gives 1 point. Best team after 4 rounds wins.

The Chess and Go Event will be played in teams of 2 versus 2. Team composition is without restrictions and games will be played without handicap. Both teams play a game of Rengo (on a 13×13 board) and Pair Chess simultaneously. The first team plays with black Go stones and black Chess pieces, the second team uses white stones and pieces.

* Play order:

 A) Black Player 1 (B1) plays the first Go move, then switches to the Chess board, and B1 presses the clock. B) White Player 1 (W1) plays the next Go move, White Player 2 (W2) plays the first Chess move, W1 and W2 swap positions, and W2 presses the clock. C) Black Player 2 (B2) plays the next Go move, B1 plays the next chess move, B1 and B2 swap positions, and B2 presses the clock. D) W2 plays the next Go move, W1 plays the next Chess move, W1 and W2 swap positions, and W2 presses the clock. E) B1 plays the next Go move, B2 plays the next Chess move, B1 and B2 swap positions, and B1 presses the clock. Repeat B – C – D – E until either the Chess game or the Go game are finished. At that point, the remaining game is continued as either Rengo (penalty for unintentional rotation error is 3 captures, if noticed immediately) or Pair Chess.

* Komi for Rengo is 3 points (lower than usual due to White’s statistical advantage in Chess and allows for Jigo since a Draw is possible in Chess, too.)

You can visit the European Go Congress (EGC) in Markkleeberg/Leipzig on all days for free. But on Sunday 30th July there will be a special open day with tutorials for beginners and interested people. You can play some games with other new Go-players or with Go-veterans.

In addition, there will be the finals of the European Championship. You can watch the deciding game for the strongest Go-player in Europe live in the big auditorium, commented and analyzed. Or you watch all the other players in their last two rounds of the weekend tournament.

In the evening will be the prize giving for the European championship and the first week of the whole event. During the time you can get snacks from the mobile kitchen hut and there will be a coffee bike around. And before your brain melts, take a swim in the Cossi.

In addition to the regular Go rules, capturing is forbidden after an atari. That is, if White reduced the number of liberties of any black group to one, Black is not allowed to capture stones in the next move. Self-ataris don’t count. This can lead to absolutely crazy variations where both players scramble to play any atari they can find, repeatedly “freezing” their opponent.

* Rules: During each game, you can drink a beer to gain an extra point. Ranking is done by points gained and first tiebreaker after points is the progress score. (calculated like this: After each game, the points from drinking beer and points from winning games are added to your total score. So if you drink a beer and win in the first round, you have a progress score of 2. If you drink another beer and lose, your progress score is 2 + (2+1) = 5.

Important:

* Because the karaoke bar sells alcohol, only adults can enter. So you have to be at least 18 years old, if you want to participate there.

* We got 33 seat places and it is possible to get places to stand. We want to rotate, if we got more than 33 participants.

* It is important that we are already many people at 9 p.m. If too many seats stay for too long, they give them to other groups.

* If you want to have a chance on a standing place and rotate later, you have to be there before 10 p.m. The Kakadu can be full very fast, so please don’t be too late, if you want to do some karaoke.

This is a fun five-round tournament taking place on the free day, Wednesday 2nd August, where you play as a team of three players on one board in 5 rounds. Handicaps will be given according to the average rank of the players (rounded down). Teams can get three extra handicap stones (in total) for highly-mixed teams in terms of nationality, strength and age.

– Full handicap according to the average rank of the players (rounded down)
– We encourage creating multicultural multi-generation teams of various strength as follows:
> one extra handicap stone for the team with more nationalities
> one extra handicap stone for the team with highest age difference

– In each game this can add up three additional handicap stones. – The tournament uses a Swiss system and is played in five rounds.

This is an outdoor activity and may be cancelled or moved based on the weather conditions. The goban is created by placing a net on the grass. Black and white frisbees are used as stones. Stones are placed by throwing them from outside the board. The minimum distance from the board will be set age depend, if necessary.

* Rules: The detailed rules will be announced at the congress and may vary on the weather and the amount of players. Likely there will be teams of 2 people.

Afterward, they swap colors and finish the game with opposite colors. The sum of the scores will be the result of the match. Wins in the individual games don’t count.
