Ohashi Hirofumi (大橋拓文)

Ohashi Hirofumi is a 7-dan professional and seasoned international Go teacher from the Nihon Ki-In.

Qualifying as a 1-dan professional in 2002, he placed as runner-up in the 1st Under-20 Nakano Cup in 2004 and was finally promoted to the rank of 7-dan professional in 2021.


Li Ting (黎 ティン)

Li Ting is a 1-dan professional from the Kansai Ki-In.

Born in 1980, she qualified as professional player in 2010. Her style of play focusses on close-quarter fighting.

She considers Go as a language that transcends borders, and as a way of making new friends – a truly beautiful sentiment.


Do Eunkyo (黎 ティン)

Do is a seasoned international teacher, having taught at EGC 2019 and Latin American Go Congress 2018 and 2022 (amongst others)!

She also teaches Go on YouTube – check out her English-language channel Go Inside.


Choi Wonjin (최원진)

Choi Wonjin was the unstoppable force of EGC 2022, posting an impressive 10-0 record. Now he’s back as a 2-dan professional.

Choi made Top 8 in the Crown Cup and plays in the “Futures League”.


Lǐ Zhé (李喆)

Lǐ Zhé is a 6-dan professional from the Zhongguo Qiyuan.

Graduating from the Department of Philosophy of Beijing University in 2017, he is currently an Associate Professor at Wuhan University and teaches classes on Go culture.

He was chosen as the MVP of Chinese Weiqi A League in 2010. The following year, he was the 3rd-highest rated Chinese player and champion of the China Ryusei Championship.



Xiè Hè (谢赫)

Xiè Hè is a 9-dan professional extraordinaire from the Zhongguo Qiyuan.

Qualifying as 1-dan professional at the age of 11, he was promoted to a 9-dan professional in 2012.

Xiè Hè has won numerous national and international championships. He defeated Kim Ji-Seok, Won Seong-Jin and Lee Chang-Ho to win the Team Championship of the ramen company-sponsored Nongshim Cup in 2012.


Zhōu Ruìyáng (周睿羊)

Zhōu Ruìyáng, well known 9-dan professional of Zhongguo Quiyan, will join EGC 2023 as a guest of honour!

Born in 1991, he became a 1-dan professional in 2002. A force to be reckoned with, he’s currently a top 100 player.

He has been a staple of the Chinese A league for many years and won several domestic and international titles.


Liú Xīng (刘星)

Liú Xīng, 7-dan professional of Zhongguo Quiyan, joins as guest of honour for first week of EGC 2023!

Born in 1984, he turned professional in 1995, and showed his strength by winning the World Youth Go Championship in 1998.

He took the CCTV Cup from Gu Li in 2005 and won the Japan China Agon Cup against Cho U in 2006 and 2007.


Fàn Wèijīng (范蔚菁)

Fàn Wèijīng is a 3-dan professional from the Zhongguo Qiyuan.

She began playing go at age six and was certified as a professional by the Chinese Go Association in 2002. That same year, she was National Women’s Junior Go Champion. 2008 was another significant year in her career, as she was the only female player to feature in the main draw of the Samsung Cup and won the gold medal in the World Mind Sports Games Pair Go competition with Huang Yizhong.


Zéng Bǐngquán (曾炳权)

Zéng Bǐngquán is a 6-dan professional from the Zhongguo Qiyuan, as well as secretary-general of the Guangdong Weiqi Association.

Born in 1962, he reached the rank of 4-dan professional in 1982 before finally becoming a 6-dan professional in 1986.


Yú Xiǎodān (余晓丹)

Yú Xiǎodān is a 2-dan professional from the Zhongguo Qiyuan.

In 2016, she founded Xiaodan Go Academy in Xiamen. She is currently president of the Go Association in Huli District, Xiamen City.
From 1983 to 1990, she represented Fujian Province in the National Go Championship with great success.

For 15 years, she has been president of Xiamen Youth Go Association focussing on youth work as well as organizing a variety of competitions and events. From 2013 to 2021, Yú led the Women’s A league team of Xiamen City, ranking Top 3 four times.


Lín Póyǔ (林柏宇)

Lín Póyǔ is a 2-dan professional from the Taiwan Qiyuan.

He qualified as 1-dan professional in 2018, increasing his rank to 2-dan just this year.


Mateusz Surma

Another famous European player, Mateusz Surma is a 2-dan professional from the EGF.

His dad taught him how to play when he was a mere 6 years old. Between 2009 and 2013, he honed his skills at various Go Schools in Korea.

Qualifying as a professional player in 2015, he was promoted to a 2-dan professional in 2019. Recently his focus has been on growing the Go community outside of Asia – the perfect fit for EGC 2023!


Stephanie Yin

Stephanie Yin is founder and president of the New York Institute of Go.

Qualifying as 1-dan professional in 2007, Stephanie has since won numerous US Go tournaments and was a main commentator for the Google DeepMind-team during the Ke Jie vs. AlphaGo matches.

She has plenty of experience teaching Go as the head coach of the MIT Go club, as well as on the YouTube channel NYIG_Go.


Hwang In-seong

Hwang In-seong, founder of Go academy “Yeongusaeng Dojang” and respected member of the European Go community.

His vast experience at teaching Go internationally is equally impressive as his record as a top-tier player in Europe!

Yoon Young-Sun (윤영선)

One of the most popular figures in the European Go community, she probably needs no introduction.

Yoon Young-Sun qualified as a professional player in 1992 and has since reached the rank of 8-dan professional. Since 2006, she has been living and teaching Go in Hamburg.

Her books on a variety of topics will be available for purchase at the EGC.

Fun fact: In the anime “Hikaru No Go”, the game played between the protagonist Shindo and the Korean Hong Su-Yeong is actually one of her games. Check out the review she created on her popular YouTube channel Yoon’s Baduk Café.


Andrii Kravets

One of the most famous European players, Andrii Kravets is a 1-dan professional from the EGF. He qualified as a professional player in 2017.

Starting to play Go at the age of 8, it only took him a few years to become the U-12 European champion – a first sign of the successful career ahead of him.


Guo Juan

Guo Juan is a Chinese/Dutch 5-dan professional from the Zhongguo Qiyuan.

She won the European Championship four times straight from 1994-1997, was Dutch champion seven times and trained in the Chinese national team.

An experienced teacher, she runs Guo Juan’s Internet Go School.

Ali Jabarin

Ali Jabarin is a 2-dan professional from Israel.

Qualifying as a professional player in 2014, he got promoted to 2-dan in 2018. He prefers a peaceful, territorial style of play.

Will he be able to finally clinch the European Championship title after three 2nd and two 3rd place finishes?


Jan Simara

Jan Simara is a 1-dan professional from the Czech Republic.

Very much the “new kid on the block”, Jan only qualified as a 1-dan professional this March. He already became European champion at a German EGC in Bonn, 2012. Will he be able to repeat this achievement?


Stanisław Frejlak

Stanisław Frejlak is a 1-dan professional from Poland.

He qualified as professional player in 2021 and was Polish Go champion five times. Stanisław is currently the fifth-highest ranked European professional.


Tanguy LeCalve

Tanguy LeCalve is a 1-dan professional from France.

He started playing Go at the age of 12, after reading Hikaru No Go and discovering a goban in his room and stones in his attic. From there, sky was the limit, and he qualified as a professional player in 2019. Now, teaching Go is his full-time job.


Artem Kachanovskyi

Artem Kachanovskyi is a 1-dan professional from Ukraine.

He qualified as a 1-dan professional in 2016 and got promoted to 2-dan in 2018. Last year, he was runner up in the European Championship and won the Pandanet Go European Team Championship. He’s also the founder and editor-in-chief of the European Go Journal.
